Reverse osmosis or vapor distillation removes contaminants — and strips the minerals. WHO has documented health concerns from prolonged consumption of demineralized water.
Contamination is reintroduced after filtration — through the plastic bottle (antimony leaching, microplastic shedding) and through the cap. The water that left the filter is not the water that reaches you.
Removes contaminants. Loses minerals. Re-contaminates from the bottle.
The “Natural Mineral” camp

Minimal treatment preserves the source mineral profile. But mineral water is minimally treated by design. When PFAS, microplastics, arsenic, or uranium are in the source, they pass through.
Fiji recalled 1.9M bottles in 2024 for manganese and bacteria. Gerolsteiner tested second-highest for microplastics of all 11 brands in Mason 2018.
