Are these contaminants federally regulated?
Not yet — but in April 2026, the EPA added PFAS, microplastics, and pharmaceuticals to its draft Contaminant Candidate List, the first step toward potential federal regulation under the Safe Drinking Water Act. Federal limits typically take years to finalize. Valinor was built for this. It already reduces all three. View the EPA filing →
Does the filter remove minerals from the water?
No. Calcium, magnesium, and potassium are good for you and good for the taste of water — they’re why high-quality mineral waters like Gerolsteiner taste the way they do. Pitchers that strip minerals out leave you with flat, slightly acidic water that some studies link to leaching from your own pipes downstream. We reduce what shouldn’t be there and leave what should.
Do you reduce TDS?
Not by much — by design. TDS meters mostly measure dissolved minerals like calcium and magnesium, which Valinor deliberately leaves in your water. What they can’t detect: PFAS, lead, or microplastics at the concentrations that matter. A near-zero TDS reading proves a filter stripped the minerals, not that the water is safe. Contaminant-specific lab testing is the only measure that counts.
Does filtration change the water’s pH?
No meaningful change. Because the minerals stay in, your water’s natural balance stays too — pH comes out close to what your tap delivers. Filters that strip everything can leave water slightly acidic and flat-tasting. Valinor doesn’t push it the other way either: no alkalizing additives.
Does it remove bacteria or viruses?
No — and it’s not designed to. Valinor is built for treated municipal tap water, which is already disinfected. It solves what disinfection leaves behind: PFAS, microplastics, lead, and dozens more. On a private well or untreated source, test your water before relying on any pitcher filter.
Why avoid plastic in a filtration system?
Plastic can shed microplastics and chemicals into the water it’s holding. A filter that does its job and then dumps the water back into plastic is undermining itself.
Does the filter contain any plastic?
The filter media itself is plastic-free and cellulose-based. The endcaps that hold the media in place are virgin polypropylene. End to end, Valinor uses up to 99% less plastic than the leading pitcher filters on the market.
